New Casper Speedway management preparing for busy summer
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Casper Mountain Racers Association is the new management company for the Casper Speedway. They are almost sold out for the season coming up.
Chris McAuley, the president and promoter, said he is working on making the racer’s association a non-profit so every dollar that they make can go back into the track. This summer they have lots of plans to bring in racers.
“We are bringing wingless spring cars for what I believe is the first time they’ve ever been here at the speedway and there should be quite a few of them from Colorado on the tour,” McAuley said.
They have a couple more groups from out of state plus chances for locals to race.”We are not going to run every single class like we used to. We are going to drop and add so it’s something different every night and not the same thing over and over again,” McAuley said.
Fans seem to be excited about this summer’s plans because they are almost sold out. “I don’t think that’s been done in quite a few years. We sold 120 spots already,” McAuley said.
The link to the full schedule is here. They have plans to improve the track when the season is over. “Starting at the beginning of August we are going to start ripping track up and moving walls to get it level like it should be. We are also getting new clay on the track,” McAuley said.
This one project is not going to be small. “Just to get a six-inch layer on the track it’s about 198 truckloads of dirt that have got to be about 30 tons for a load,” McAuley said.
The opening race is May 1.
