Riverton Medical District makes national headlines for efforts to bring back hospital services

RIVERTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

The Riverton Medical District made nationwide headlines recently in the Wall Street Journal, as well as being featured on their podcast on April 20th. Their story is being covered for the grassroot efforts to bring hospital services back to Riverton.

Riverton Medical District Board Member at Large, Corte McGuffey stated, “Front page is more than I could have imagined. I took a phone call from a reporter out there a few months ago. He knew a lot about what was going on here before even talking to us. We let him know what was happening here, and he just said I think we can do a story on this because you’re not the only community that’s going through this.”

Services in Riverton at the current hospital were cut in 2014, and some of the major services eliminated were surgeries and childbirths. The Riverton Medical District was formed in 2018 and has continued to work toward bringing those essential services back to Riverton citizens.

The Riverton City Council met last night and approved waiving some sewer, water, and building permit fees for the hospital when it gets underway.

“Very excited to hear about that. The town council, the mayor, and the staff have been very supportive of our effort the last couple years and this just tells us that they further support what we’re trying to accomplish,” added McGuffey.

The district says they are still securing the financing and are about a month away from being able to submit their application to the USDA.
