CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It is Mental Health Awareness Month during May, and ART 321 is doing everything it can to bring the conversation to the forefront.

It began by unveiling its “Healing Through Art” exhibit, which features pieces about the struggles associated with health and wellness.

One of the pieces by Joyce Maken is an interactive piece about being a breast cancer survivor and allows people the opportunity to contribute encouraging messages of support for people in their own lives.

This piece hits home for ART 321 Executive Director Tyler Cessor, whose wife is currently battling breast cancer.

“The exhibit shows the power of art to express challenging narratives, to confront perceptions of health or stereotypes and bias around like what it means to be somebody with a developmental disability,” said Cessor. “There are just different ways that art can be utilized to improve health, to address health and to just kind of bring us all together as a stronger more resilient community.”

There are also pieces that represent struggles with mental health, domestic abuse and other daily challenges.

ART 321 will also be hosting its first annual Health & Wellness Through The Arts Conference from May 20-22. For more information, check out its website here.
