Tuesday heat set new records around the state dry & windy conditions look to prompt fire weather concerns heading into Wednesday
Extreme heat is wreaking havoc around Wyoming
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Tuesday was the hottest day of the week so far and looks to reign supreme throughout the rest of the week. As many areas had temperatures 100+ many areas saw lower 90s and mid 90s bolstering the hottest day of the week title. The Ridge continues to be fueled by a mass amount of hot air pushing north that has expanded the most throughout today going into tonight. Aside from the heat, the problem is the air is dry coming into the state which is causing fire weather concerns that will last likely throughout much of the week.
Tonight, temperatures will drop but not to very cool conditions. 60s low, mid and high will be what many areas will experience for tonight and periodic gusts into the Central and Northern areas of the state. Clouds will push along the southern areas of Wyoming tracking east late tonight, but any signs of precipitation are still not likely through our Tuesday night.
Looking ahead: the somewhat good news is that temperatures don’t look to be as extreme and widespread for Wednesday or the days ahead. However, we are still going to be dealing with the stout ridge we don’t see a system strong enough to deflate the ridge until about Friday where a trough from the far north of Canada looks to descend and provide some temporary relief heading into the weekend.
Expect temperatures to remain in those 90s and upper 80s through much of your afternoon and evening hours for the next couple of days. The sun will remain unforgivable so be sure to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.
