ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wyoming Football often selects just one Wyoming high school football player for a full-ride scholarship in each recruiting class.

On Monday, the Pokes locked up Isaac Schoenfeld, a Class of 2022 Tight End out of Rock Springs.

Schoenfeld stands at 6′4 and a half and weighs about 225 pounds. He can move well at that size too and has clocked a 4.7 seconds 40-yard dash time. The junior grabbed seven touchdown passes and totaled 610 receiving yards in 2020, en route to First-Team All-State honors.

Schoenfeld said he did not grow up as the star athlete in Rock Springs, but someone saw potential in him and he blossomed.

“My sophomore year of high school, we got a new coach, Coach [Mark] Lenhardt,” said Schoenfeld. “Great guy, I absolutely love him. He kind of put hope in me, put faith in me to be “the guy” for the coming years.”

Schoenfeld said his Wyoming recruiting journey began during basketball season when UW Tight End Coach Shannon Moore reached out to him. The two remained in touch and Schoenfeld was offered a full-ride scholarship to play for the Cowboys during his unofficial visit on Saturday, June 12. Schoenfeld then, in a moment he apparently envisioned as a little kid, made his verbal commitment on Monday after a phone call with Wyoming Football Head Coach Craig Bohl.

“I remember, me and my dad were going up to a Cowboys game when I was little and I remember this moment: I was like: ”Hey dad, I want to be a Cowboy when I grow up, I want to play football for Wyoming,’” said Schoenfeld. “That kind of just stuck with me and I think it means a lot to the state, and especially Rock Springs, to see a kid go play at Wyoming.”

Congratulations to Isaac Schoenfeld and his family on this dream come true moment.
