Casper Horseheads Expedition League All-Star: Cristian Lopez
Cristian Lopez may be one of the best hitters in the Expedition League, and he’s torn it up since arriving in Casper. His All-Star selection came as no surprise to the Casper Horseheads head coach.
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Casper Horseheads are this year’s host for the Expedition League All-Star Game. The exhibition will feature the best and brightest from the first half of this summer’s Expedition League teams.
The Horseheads now have five All-Stars after Joe Schmidt was added to the team as a replacement.
Wyoming News Now has profiled three of the All-Stars already. If you missed their stories, check them out here.
Cristian Lopez might be the most exciting of the whole bunch. Lopez is originally from Chula Vista, CA, and plays at Alabama State University during the school year.
Since his arrival in Casper this summer, all he has done is rake.
In 37 games, Lopez owns a .382 batting average with 41 RBIs and 16 extra-base hits. That includes 12 doubles and a pair of triples and homers.
“He is arguably not just one of ours, but maybe one of the best hitters in the whole league, so that All-Star was if there was ever a sure thing slam-dunk, it was probably C-Lo,” said Horseheads Head Coach Kyle Pearson.
Pearson said “C-Lo,” as the team calls him, is a guy that they have to force off the field sometimes, which is a good thing, according to Pearson.
“He’s just a calming factor for everybody,” said Pearson. “It’s like, ‘We’re going to get four quality at-bats from C-Lo. He’s going to get two hits. He’s going to play really good defense,’” said Pearson. “He’ll pick up the slack when guys aren’t picking up the slack.”
Lopez said he’s just keeping it simple out there. “I’m just trying to do my thing,” said Lopez. “Be a good hitter and just help the team.”
The Expedition All-Star Game will be held at Mike Lansing Field on Tuesday, July 20 at 7:05 PM.
