CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It’s Expedition League All-Star Week, and the festivities lifted off with a bunch of big flies during the league’s Home Run Derby on Monday.

12 power hitters from each team in the league squared off to see who could hit the most out at Mike Lansing Field. Each hitter had 10 outs to try and hit the most home runs they could in order to advance.

Fremont Moo Infielder EJ Taylor got the first chance to woo the Casper crowd, and he paced everyone early with four homers in the first round. It tied for the lead heading into the second round, and it may have tired him out, as he didn’t homer in the second round.

The biggest ovation from the crowd went to Casper Horsehead Brooks Browning, who is from Glenrock. Browning had his dad throwing to him during the showcase.

“It’s pretty, pretty awesome because he’s been throwing to me since I was a little kid, and so to actually have it out here is a cool experience,” said Browning before he stepped to the plate.

Browning swung with all of his might, but he wasn’t able to muster enough over the fence to advance. He finished with one homer.

Western Nebraska Pioneer JT Waldon was one of the last contestants to go in the first round, and he promised to hit six homers.

It only took him eight to win the whole thing after hitting 3 each in the first round and second rounds. In the finals, he met Souris Valley Sabre Dog Jordan Williams, and they each homered once.

This prompted a swing-off to crown a champion, and Waldon was the first to kiss one goodbye. Williams fouled off his response, which made Waldon the winner.

It was a wild ending to an exciting evening before the Expedition League All-Star Game begins on Tuesday at Mike Lansing Field at 7:05 PM.
