CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The current Natrona County Sheriff announced his retirement and now county officials have decided on who is stepping into the role.

Undersheriff John Harlin said getting this position wasn’t a dream job, but is excited to continue helping the community. “It just kind of materialized and I received support from our employees and from our citizens and from the recommendations,” Harlin said.

Harlin will resume duties until Sheriff Gus Holbrook retires at the end of July. The county sheriff is an elected position, but since Holbrook decided to retire county officials selected him for the position.

He is grateful for all of the support. “It’s a little embarrassing actually. It’s reassuring the public has confidence in me to fulfill the duties as sheriff,” Harlin said.

Harlin said he will be running in the 2022 elections.
