Early Weekend Smoke Forecast
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -
There are several wildfires taking place in the western United States continuing on from weeks ago. The smoke from these fires to our west is the rest we have been experiencing smoking and hazy days recently. Strong winds speeds carry the smoke and ash in the air to places far east from the wild fires, some even reaching as far as north Georgia in the southeast United States.
Smoky days have been consistent over the past month. As we go further into the weekend, smoke conditions are forecasted to lighten up a bit for the Cowboy State. Today, heavy smoke is occurring in the northeast corner. this area of heavy smoke is effecting Gillette and Sheridan. For areas like Casper and Cheyenne, the smoke has already begun calming down into the moderate ranges.
Early Friday morning, Casper can expect to have heavy smoke briefly for about an hour or so. Gillette will be sitting within a pocket of heavy smoke in the afternoon tomorrow. Cheyenne will continue being in the moderate smoke levels, as Casper continues to clear it out.
On Saturday, the most northeast corner of the state will have the heaviest smoke. Casper will see slightly higher levels of smoke on Saturday than they will on Friday. Cheyenne will stay consistent in the moderate levels. For the northern half of the state though, as we get closer to the weekend, conditions will become better compared to what they have been.
There are still Air Quality Warnings in effect for today at 1PM due to all of the smoke. This area of warnings takes up most of the state now, with an exception to the south and central portion of the state which is under a Fire Weather Watch. The Air Quality Warning which takes up the eastern border is in effect until Friday at 1PM.
