CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Although it seems like summer just started, Natrona County School District is working hard to ensure students, parents, and guardians are prepared for the school year to start on September 1st.

If you have been walking into retail stores in the area looking for school supplies list, you might notice there aren’t any to be found. Natrona County School District wants to ensure students succeed in the classroom.

“School supplies are provided to students by their individual schools. That being said, we know that back to school shopping can be a fun time for a lot of parents and guardians and students so if parents or guardians choose, they are welcome to send school supplies with their students, but it’s not required,” said Tanya Southerland, the Director of Public Relations for NCSD.

NCSD recommends speaking to your child’s teacher if you plan on purchasing school supplies.

The Campus Parent portal is also an important part of helping your child return to school. The portal includes parental agreement forms and allows you to sign up for ways to be contacted by your child’s school.

“So in Campus Parent you can go on and set your notifications and what that does is that allows us the ability to email, text, and/or call you throughout the academic year,” said Southerland.

Schools in Natrona County will use information in the portal to contact parents and guardians regarding emergencies and inclement weather...as well as other general announcements.

Southerland says the staff is ready to see students back in the classroms with all in-person learning returning.

“We’re super excited just to see those hallways filled with students and staff doing the great work that they do everyday to really make education excellent in Natrona County. We’re super excited for the start of the school year, and we can’t wait to see all of our students and staff back,” said Southerland.

Southerland also suggests setting goals such as an earlier bed time or reading books with your child to prepare them to come back to school.

Another thing families can do to prepare to come back to school is attending their child’s Back to School Night.

Each school in the district will host a Back to School Night. Families will have the chance to meet the teachers and tour the school. Students also receive their schedules at these events, and have the chance to check out their classrooms. Kindergarten and high school orientations may be different than the back to school nights. Attendance at one of these Back to School Nights is highly encouraged.

“You can expect to see a lot of smiling faces of teachers and staff members super excited to see kiddos again. We’ve been preparing for the start of the school year and those back to school nights really are a great opportunity to make those connections,” said Southerland.
