CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - If you live inside the Laramie county fire Districts 2 and 8, you have the opportunity to vote on the consolidation of those two districts. While it may seem like a major change, the proposal boils down to only the removal of two lines.

“All we are doing is erasing this line and this line, and we will become one big district,” said LCFD2′s Secretary Treasurer for the Board of Directors Angi Moffett.

If you live inside those areas, you can vote at LCFD2′s station one, or at District 8s Gilchrist fire station. Voting began at 7 am this morning. There are around 10,000 eligible voters for the consolidation plans. If passed, the districts would become one, forming under the name of “Laramie County Fire Authority”. But as for what the public would notice on a daily basis if it were to pass, it could be very minimal beyond the name change.

“If you live in fire District 2 or 8, the same people will still be responding to any of the events that would be taking place in any of the districts. This is more of an administration and borderline event.”

Voting closes at 7 tonight, August 17th. The official count will be done tomorrow and the outcome will be announced shortly after.
