Urban Renewal Authority fights the blight
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -The Urban Renewal Authority is a state-authorized economic development tool that qualifies “blighted” properties for re-development.
“Really when you see urban renewal, we want you to think about re-development potential the possibility for new things to come into town and something that really bridges the gap for the development community,” Mark Christensen, Planner 2, Planning and Development City of Cheyenne.
The tools for re-development include tax increment financing, infrastructure improvement, environmental remediation, and utility relocation.
Currently, the hitching post is going through this process, which has created some development interest.
Three main areas are being investigated, the Hitching Post, the Reed-Rail Corridor and the Hynds and the Hole next door.
When the Hitching Post gets its urban renewal plan adopted, the city anticipates it will cascade development into the downtown and west edge.
”This has definitely sparked a lot of interest in development in this area. We are really excited to see where this goes and how it can transform the western gateway to the city of Cheyenne,” said Charles Bloom, Director, Planning & Development City of Cheyenne
The Hitching Post plan and project are anticipated to be adopted on August 23. The next URA meeting is planned for the last week of August.
