Prep Athletes of the Week (to watch for in 2021): Kaeden Wilcox & Nate Talich
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Last week, Kelly Walsh’s Cameron Burkett and Cheyenne East’s Gavin Goff were named Wyoming News Now Prep Athletes of the Week (to watch for in 2021). This week, the sports department has named a Mustang and an Indian.
Casper Selection: Kaeden Wilcox, Natrona County
Wilcox is a senior safety and running back for the Mustangs. In 2020, he racked up 100 tackles, snagged six interceptions, and scored two defensive touchdowns. Wilcox was a First Team All-State Defensive back last season.
“I like to hit. Wrestling’s helped out a lot. [I’m] very aggressive.”
Cheyenne Selection: Nate Talich, Cheyenne Central
Talich is a senior wide receiver and defensive back for the Indians. Last season, he contributed on both sides of the ball. As a receiver the former Prep Athlete of the Week (February 1), recorded 491 receiving yards and caught 6 receiving touchdowns. On defense, he had 38 total tackles, a sack, and four interceptions. Talich was selected for the All-State 2nd Team as both a wide receiver and defensive back in 2020.
“Last year we were ranked number two and we ended up losing to a seven seed. So you just gotta play every game like you’re the last seed and have nothing to lose...I know I’m playing for one this school and the Central across my shirt and then I’m playing for all those seniors who graduated last year and we just gotta get it done for them.”
Good luck to both Wyoming News Now Prep Athletes of the Week (to watch for in 2021) this season. The high school football season begins on Friday.
*VIDEO CORRECTION: Talich intercepted four passes in 2020, not two.
