CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Laramie County Community College has grown beyond the basics in recent years. The college has been vigorously building their Pathways Initiative to encourage students to pursue various career opportunities.

“‘Find your path’ isn’t just about finding your academic pathway, but it’s really finding your path to success, to a career, to reaching your goals, whatever those might be,” said Lisa Trimble, Associate Vice President.

The college offers eight ‘pathways’ students can select: Agricultural and Equine, Business and Accounting, Communication and Creative Arts, Health Sciences and Wellness, Human and Public Services, Information Technology, Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM), and Trades and Technical Studies.

The program allows students to pursue a career without having to commit to a major.

“Instead of making that decision from day one, you are making the decision to enter a pathway, so that you can shift and pivot without losing credits, without losing time, as long as you kind of stay within that pathway that you originally started in, which is what we are excited about,” said Trimble.

Trimble said the college feeds workforce-ready students right back into the community, helping employers find qualified workers and guiding students toward successful employment opportunities.

“They are taking courses that apply to any degree that would be within that pathway, so that they can take classes that are getting them on a path to success; they are continuing to move forward in their academic experience, but they are also being given the opportunity to explore what it means to have a degree, or what kinds of careers do I want to see myself in down the road, and what program would give me the best opportunity for that kind of career. You’re not picking a major, you’re picking a pathway.”
