Hot Days Ahead With Possible Records
By: Jordan Frazier
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - We saw some relatively warm temperatures across the state today with temperature being slightly above average, very similar to what we saw yesterday, mostly in the mid 80s. Enjoy it while you can because the next few days look to be very hot with possible record breaking temperatures. Starting off, the smoke was not any better today with much of the entire state under air quality alerts and a few fire weather watches and warnings thrown in due to the dry conditions. Tomorrow morning doesn’t look too great either as our forecast calls for lots of heavy smoke throughout Wyoming.
As we go into the evening time, it looks to move to the northern and eastern sides giving way for clearer conditions in the southwest. Either way, try to limit time outside, especially if you have any underlying heart or lung conditions as the smoke can worsen symptoms. Unfortunately, unless we see some strong winds or heavy rain anytime soon, which the models do not show, we will be stuck with this smoke for a while. Our surface map actually shows that the numerous high pressure systems out to the west are helping to funnel the smoke into the state. On the brighter side, the high’s do allow for mostly clear skies, but will also be responsible for the very hot temperatures over the next few days.
Not a while lot in terms of rain as I mentioned earlier, but there will be some clouds in the northern regions. Tomorrow, the most weather we can expect will be the wind. Strong gusts from the northwest will be expected for the northern half of the state resulting in some breezy conditions and gusts over 20 MPH in the afternoon hours. Beyond that, tonight will be very similar to what we have seen over the last few days. Decreasing cloud cover will result in more seasonable lows with mostly 40s all around, some 50s in the southeast, and some 30s in the northwest. Tomorrow, much warmer temperatures than today are to be expected. Lots of 90s throughout the state with 80s out to west and higher elevations. It may be possible to see record heat, but the models are projecting that more toward Friday.
