CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The 12-24 Club and Casper Family Connections are working together to support the Kids Like Us Program. The program started off as a simple idea in a meeting, but quickly grew to be more.

“One of the things we noticed there was a need for was child care for people in recovery while they attend recovery meetings. We reached out to Casper Family Connections to see if we could bridge a gap there so that a parent could attend a meeting and not have to worry about their child,” said Jeremy Jones, the executive director of the 12-24 Club.

Kids Like Us is a therapeutically based group for children up to 12 years old. The group gives children the chance to talk about their emotions, family support, and forgiveness. Two staff members run the program to help guide conversations and activities towards specific age groups. The program is offered Monday evenings and Tuesday afternoons. Both organizations hope this program will allow parents to feel more comfortable utilizing recovery groups.

“I would say the biggest hope for the outcome of the group is that the families can continue working through their recovery. The parents don’t have to worry about their children. They can focus on what they need to during those times, and the children can learn those coping skills they need to while they’re growing up,” said Karlea Coulter, the executive director of Casper Family Connections.

The group is free for all children attending.
