From Record Setting Heat to Freeze Warnings
20 September 2021
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wyoming weather is interesting in the sense that within a weekend, we can go from record breaking heat to below freezing temperatures. With the strong cold front coming in over the weekend, temperatures took a big tumble today. Temperatures were over 10 degrees lower than what we typically see this time of year for highs and lows will be a similar story for overnight. Warnings for tonight are different from the ones we have seen lately. There are frost advisories in effect for much of the eastern side of the state and freeze warning for the central and southern regions near the mountain ranges, so be sure to cover up any of those delicate plants.
The good news behind this strong front is the smoke forecast. Little to no smoke will be left by the end of tomorrow as the increased precipitation chances and strong winds help clean out the atmosphere. Expect some isolated showers and snow overnight, but it’ll clear out relatively quickly. Temperatures will be warming right back up after the front passes so we will be back up to the upper 70s and lower 80s by the middle of the week. Another cold front is on the way from the Pacific northwest and travelling in the same way as this front did.
The biggest difference is that this front will be much weaker. It will cool off cities anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees rather than 20. Tonight, temperatures around the state will be close to if not below the freezing mark. That is why we have those frost advisories and freeze warnings in effect. Tomorrow will be very similar to today, but with little to no rain in the forecast. Temperatures will stick around in the 60s. If you don’t like the cold weather, it’ll be warming right back up later this week.
