Kelly Walsh bounces back against Laramie
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It was Homecoming for Kelly Walsh, and they did not want to disappoint their home crowd. The Trojans were on a 2-game losing streak, and they also wanted to break that against a winless Laramie team.
The Plainsmen did not look like a team with a zero in the win column early on. The team traded blows with Kelly Walsh and built a 10-0 lead behind a rushing touchdown from Pablo Zepeda and a long field goal.
It wouldn’t last though. Trojan Running Back Cameron Burkett powered in an 8-yard touchdown after breaking a few tackles to pull within 3 heading into the half.
At halftime, Kelly Walsh lights up a “KW” logo in flames to honor each homecoming, and it was a sign of things to come for the Trojans in the second half.
On the very first play from scrimmage to begin the third quarter, Burkett toted the ball 69 yards this time for his second score of the game, and it gave the Trojans its first lead. It was a lead that they would not squander.
When the Plainsmen got the ball back, Quarterback Ben Malone was pressured and tried to throw the ball away, but it landed right in the arms of Kelly Walsh Lineman Ayden Adsit. Adsit knew exactly what to do with the ball and ran the interception back for a touchdown to push the lead to 21-10.
Cameron Burkett would add another 62-yard touchdown run to bring his total to three scores on the night, and Jordan Jackson would catch a 38-yard pass to give the end zone a breather from seeing Burkett.
The Plainsmen fought back, but the Trojans would go on to win 34-24.
Kelly Walsh will hit the road next week to face Thunder Basin, and Laramie will return home looking for its first win of the season against Rock Springs.
