CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It was a warm and dry day for a lot of the state today. Humidity values have dropped off and wind speeds have picked up. If we compare the highs with yesterday, we can see how much warmer it got today. Most of the state saw higher temperatures today than yesterday, and that’s thanks to those shortwave troughs moving out and a high pressure system moving in.

We will see fairly warm temperatures in the forecast over the next couple of days.

Along with the warmth and dry, smoke will start to creep back into Wyoming. This afternoon, most of the state saw some light smoke, but into Sunday evening, we’ll start to see a small pocket emerge over Jackson. Then, later into Sunday night, a much larger and heavier pocket will swoop in from the northwest and begin bringing back those hazy skies over much of the state.

As the weather continues to be warm and mild, the smoke also makes a comeback.

Since the smoke isn’t so bad yet, we don’t have any air quality alerts, but those are bound to return tomorrow and Monday. Right now, since we have those warmer temperatures and high winds leading to poor overnight humidity recovery, we have a fire weather watch in effect until tomorrow night over the southeast corner and a fire weather warning that is set to expire in Johnson and Natrona county at 8pm.

Taking a look at those winds, we have some pretty high sustained winds, but those will die down around sunset tonight in the southeastern corner. But, they will pick up again early tomorrow morning, especially east of the Laramie Range and into the Nebraska panhandle, with 25-30MPH gusts possible. Clear and sunny skies will persist into Monday as well.

Tonight, those clear skies will provide us with some radiational cooling so we’ll be seeing temperatures in the 30s, 40s, and 50s all across Wyoming and Scottsbluff.

Tomorrow, temperatures will continue to be well above normal, but not record-breaking. Scottsbluff will be the hot pocket tomorrow at 90 degrees and of course Yellowstone will be a cool 66.

Tomorrow will be a few degrees warmer than today all across the state.

Taking a look at the extended forecast, we can see that a strong shortwave trough will make its way into the state on Tuesday cooling us down and giving us the slight possibility for some showers. That trough will be accompanied by a cold front that will return us to seasonable temperatures for this time of year.
