Another Winter Storm Approaches
18 October 2021
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Conditions outside today were very nice even though we are still seeing temperature above average. Skies were mostly clear with some clouds beginning to move in from the western regions of the state. But we all have this feeling, it is the calm before the storm. Yes, we have another winter storm coming through the state thanks to a strong cold front lowering the Jetstream and bringing in cold air from the north.
On top of that, the moisture coming through will fall as rain first and then as snow once the temperatures drop in the overnight hours. The good news is the wind will not be as strong as it was last week, but enough that we can expect blowing snow, low visibility, and road closures. Models are still in disarray in terms of snowfall amounts so I posted some information from the different bureaus of the National Weather Service in Wyoming on social media. Expect the western and central regions of the state to start seeing the snowfall overnight tonight and the eastern side of the state to start seeing the snowfall overnight tomorrow.
Tonight, we will see the beginning of the approaching front. Temperatures will drop to more seasonable levels as clouds begin to build and some isolated showers are expected. Tomorrow, expect the temperatures to not warm up all that much with overcast skies. On top of that, rain and snow are expected throughout much of the state for much of the day, hence the large percentage of rain and snow chances. After that, we will warm back up to more seasonable levels and stay that way at least until the next frontal system comes through and brings us more snow.
