Prep Athlete of the Week: Keagan Bartlett
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On Friday, October 22, Central Football (2-7) hosted Laramie (1-8) in a “win and you’re in” showdown to decide who gets the #8/final seed in the 4A Wyoming Football State Playoffs.
Enter Cheyenne Central Quarterback Keagan Bartlett, who had one of the most unreal performances ever. However, Bartlett does not want to take sole credit.
“I can’t have an 83 touchdown if they don’t block upfront and then our wide receivers caught the ball,” said Bartlett. “I mean [Ethan] Reisdorfer’s catch over the middle…when I threw that ball I felt like I just missed a touchdown and he helped me out so it was it was all a team effort and just allowed for me to have that game.”
So how good was Bartlett?
The Junior racked up 175 rushing yards, threw for 79 passing yards, and scored six (three rushing and three passing) total touchdowns. Bartlett was accountable for 36 points in the Indians’ dominant 58-13 victory over Laramie.
“[He’s a] quiet easy-going kid, man,” said Central Head Football Coach Mike Apodaca. “Just you know a kid, he’s got great grades and I think he’s just really embraced a new opportunity and, at the end of the day, no matter what kid it is, it’s fun to see a kid comfortable in his environment and you feel that in Keagan right now and the sky’s the limit.”
Bartlett transferred from Cheyenne East this summer and was the 4A 182-pound weight class runner-up as a T-Bird. He said he wants to play football and his top choice is the University of Iowa.
Congratulations and best of luck to Keagan Bartlett, Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
