Shoshoni shows out to support football state champions
From team dinners to parades, the Shoshoni football team has been overwhelmed with celebration after bringing home the town’s first state title since 1985.
SHOSHONI, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Shoshoni won its first state championship since 1985, and the accomplishment has been celebrated. The team has been honored at dinners, and a parade was even hosted through Shoshoni’s main route.
Tony Truempler, the Wranglers’ head football coach, said he’s been floored by the support of the team from the town. “The amount of fans that we had there was crazy,” said Truempler talking about everyone that made the trip to Laramie for last Saturday’s title contest. “I don’t think there was anybody left in Shoshoni to run anything because I think the whole town of Shoshoni was in Laramie.”
During the 1A 9-Man State Championship Game, Shoshoni’s side at War Memorial Stadium was nearly full in the lower section. As of 2020, Census.gov had Shoshoni’s population at 471.
Truempler said Shoshoni, as a town, is just a family.
“Our games there’s little kids playing a pick-up game right behind in our little playground behind the crow’s nest every Friday night when we’re home and stuff,” said Truempler. And I think that’s what makes it so neat for this.”
