Southside Stampede returns for second year
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - South High School held the return of their Southside Stampede on Saturday, encouraging students, parents, and community members to come out and show support.
This was just the second Southside Stampede ever and the event’s already begun to show signs of growth.
“It is so awesome to just see peoples love and support for the southside. I think the southside has worked really hard over the last year to build up this side of town, so it’s just kind of cool to see,” said South’s Head Cheer Coach Madeline Moyte.
There were a number of different things to see and do at the Southside Stampede. Car shows, music, dancing, and athletic events were all featured. One common thread ran through it all; southside pride.
The stampede was not only a way to build excitement for the fall sports season, but to bring the community together as a whole.
“One thing that South really does have is a sense of pride. They are a really tight community and so, when we can come together and really just rally around the athletes and have some fun, and get the music going and the traditional dancers and just all of the different communities that can really bring something to South, it just makes it fun,” said Ringside Sports’ Janell Mellish
Mellish mentioned that she hopes to eventually make events like this possible at Central and East as well.
