Laramie vs. Sheridan Playoff Preview
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Laramie secured the #8 seed last Friday with a big win over South that brought them back to the postseason stage.
Coach Paul Ronga took over the program a year and a half ago, and this year especially he’s seen the team make big strides in their offensive game.
“I think what has happened as the season has progressed is that our offensive line has begun to gel, and as a result of that it’s twofold. The first fold is you get a better controlling of the line of scrimmage, and the second thing is-- which is the most critical component I believe in high school football and having success-- running the ball,” Ronga said.
The Plainsmen do face a tall task when they travel to play the top ranked and undefeated Sheridan Broncs. The teams played earlier this season, which resulted in a 55-6 win for Sheridan.
While it was a tough showing for Laramie, they learned how to better gameplan for the second time the teams meet. Ronga said in the previous contest they were too hyper-focused on Broncs running back Colson Coon.
“He is everything but he’s not all of it. There’s other players that get the ball and other players that can make plays. I think we had a little bit more of a focus too much on Colson Coon the first time, and it diverted our attention from some of the other players that were making plays on us,” Ronga said.
Laramie’s attempt to send shockwaves through the state kicks off tomorrow at 6 p.m.
