Casper College Volleyball pushed Western Nebraska to the limit in the NJCAA Region IX Tournament
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Casper College took on Western Nebraska Community College in their opening game of the NJCAA Region IX Volleyball Tournament. The Thunderbirds won their last match against Northwest College to gain some momentum going into the postseason, but the majority of the regular season was tough sledding for the team.
Meanwhile the Cougars arrived into the tilt on a 12 match win streak, but that run was in serious jeopardy of getting stopped in its tracks. The matchup appeared to be favorable for Western Nebraska on paper considering the teams’ records, but Casper nearly turned it into their worst nightmare.
The match went all the way to five sets with the teams trading blows back and forth throughout. The Cougars barely edged out the first set 25-23, and then the Thunderbirds responded with a close 25-22 second set win. The teams split the next two sets to take it to the fifth, but ultimately the Cougars would escape.
They won the final set 15-10 to secure a 3-2 match victory and advance in the tournament.
