A rejuvenated offense of late has Cowboys Basketball poised to finish strong in nonconference play

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Pokes basketball team had a disappointing start to the year, going 3-5 through their first eight games. Following a four game losing streak, they’ve been able it around in their last two outings.

In both wins they scored over 90 points thanks in part to the elevated role of senior guard Kenny Foster.

“It’s hard to come in as a pinch hitter and play well. A guy like Kenny when he kind of gets into the rhythm of the game and plays 25-28 minutes, then you see his feel for the game come out. You see his motor, he’s a guy that doesn’t get tired,” head coach Jeff Linder said in his Wednesday press conference.

Over those two wins Foster scored 26 points on 8-12 shooting, and appears his move to the starting lineup could bring some stability to the Pokes’ rotation moving forward.

Their next two games before Mountain West play are on neutral sites in NBA arenas. On Saturday they play Dayton in the Chicago Bulls’ home site, and on Dec. 21 they play Saint Mary’s in the US Airways Center (home of the Phoenix Suns).

Coach Linder said those matchups don’t come about unless you’re a dangerous team.

“You don’t get the opportunity to play there unless you had done something prior. I think based off of what we did last year, [we were] putting ourselves in a position to play a game like this at the United Center, and in the case of next week too playing in the Phoenix Suns arena. And to play teams [like us]-- Dayton is a lot like us, Saint Mary’s, it’s hard to get games. It’s hard for people to want to play you,” Linder said.
