Prep Athlete of the Week: Kylin Shipman, Laramie
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Several local schools traveled to Colorado for various tournaments in the second weekend of high school basketball season. Laramie’s Kylin Shipman made the most of that opportunity, helping her team stay undefeated with a flurry of buckets.
“I think [I’m] just playing my role. I feel like I knew when I needed to get other people open, and I also knew when I needed to step up and score. I think I just needed to let the game come to me, and that’s what I did,” Shipman said.
She started off her run in the Greeley Roundball Invitational with 22 points on Thursday, and poured in 19 points on Friday as well.
Laramie’s tournament performance moved their record to a perfect 7-0. Shipman said one of the reasons behind their success stems from disappointment over last season’s finish.
“It was a rough end [in the] conference game. I think the feeling after it’s just-- it was such a terrible feeling that we knew it couldn’t be like that again. So I think it’s just motivating us to not ever let that happen again,” Shipman said.
The Lady Plainsmen have a few weeks off before they take the court again on Jan. 5.
