Prep Athlete of the Week: Ryan Fornstrom, Pine Bluffs
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The state of Wyoming is officially into conference play for high school basketball, which brought some impressive showings on the hardwood over the past week.
That included two strong games from Pine Bluffs’ Ryan Fornstrom. The point guard has shown he can stuff the stat sheet, and he says that having great teammates around him makes his job much easier.
“It’s just super nice because I got kids that can shoot the ball, I got kids that score from inside at will. Justin (Lerwick), Dalton (Schaefer), Carsten (Freeburg), and Jacob Slade can shoot the ball really really good from outside, and then Stu (Lerwick) and Collin (Jessen) do a good job inside. I scored two points a couple games this year and we still win by 20. So it works out either way whether I’m scoring, not scoring, or passing the ball,” Fornstrom said.
Fornstrom has shown the entire year that he’s effective in all aspects of the game, and did so again in his contests this week. Last Tuesday he flashed the passing ability he takes so much pride in with nine assists, and also was a suffocating defender coming up with five steals.
Then in his most recent game on Saturday, he filled up every column of the box score. Fornstrom led the Hornets with 21 points, and added seven boards, five assists and four steals to round out his line. Those efforts helped his team win both games and move to 14-2.
Pine Bluffs has certainly been performing well as a unit this year, but Fornstrom is also on track to achieve some personal goals he set out for.
”I think I’m at almost a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio, which is super good. I could really care less if I score. My goal is to beat my brother’s assist record this year. So we’re on track for it, but just making sure I don’t turn over the ball being the point guard, and getting the ball to open people,” Fornstrom said.
Congratulations to Ryan on the fantastic performances.
