CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Another edition of the heated rivalry between East and Central went down Thursday in a doubleheader at Storey Gym. Even outside of the fanfare, it was truly just four great basketball teams in action; both schools currently have their boys and girls squads inside the top five.

The girls teams played in the first game, and for awhile it was very competitive. Out of the halftime break though, the second ranked Lady Thunderbirds started to pull away from the fifth ranked Lady Indians. Central continued to battle, but the deficit became too large to overcome and East picked up a quality 63-45 victory over their crosstown rival.

Fans were spoiled with a #1 versus #2 matchup in the following game, and it did not disappoint. There were 15 lead changes throughout the contest, and it fittingly came down to the very end. Central’s Joseph Sawyer hit a three to tie at 51 in the final seconds, but the Indians fouled East’s Garet Schlabs on an inbound to send the senior to the line for a game-winning free throw.
