Jackson Dutcher Signs to South Dakota State University to Run
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Natrona County had another athlete sign their letter of intent to continue their collegiate career. This time around, it’s Jackson Dutcher who committed to South Dakota State University to run for the Jackrabbits.
Not only will he be running for their cross country team, but he will also be running for both their indoor and outdoor track team.
When asked why South Dakota State felt like the right choice, it came down to how they made him feel like it would be a family atmosphere.
Dutcher said, “It just kind of felt like a family. Going through the NCHS cross country program, I kind of developed like a family of my own there, and when I was on my official visit, the community was really supportive at SDSU, the coaches care about you and want to make connections with you, and I just wanted to be apart of that in the future.”
Jackson has ran cross country for Natrona since he was a freshman, and has earned some awards during his time. He earned All-state honors for cross country in both 2021 and 2022.
Not only that, but he also ran outdoor track as well for Natrona, making it to states last season. His best finish at states was 3rd in the 800 meter last year at states, while running in a couple of other events.
This winter is the first time that he is running indoor track after giving up basketball to go all in on running. He has already set the Natrona County school record for the indoor 800 meter, clocking in at 2:00.58.
Jackson is still competing in indoor track and will be running outdoor track when the spring season starts, before he goes to South Dakota to run for the Jackrabbits.
