Prep Athlete of the Week: Kyle Morton, Laramie
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The weather over the weekend created chaos in Wyoming’s world of sports; it forced Laramie’s swim team to pull out of the Gillette Invite and instead make the trip to Cheyenne for a quad meet.
That’s where Kyle Morton would make his presence known, including continuing a family tradition of dominating in the distance.
“My sister swam [the 500 free] back when she was in high school, so they’ve kind of thrown me in it the past couple years,” Morton said.
While those longer competitions may be in Kyle’s blood, he had success in just about every race he was in. Across the two days of the meet, he took first place a grand total of five times!
Morton picked up three wins on Friday, two on Saturday, and that’s not even the full list of his podium trips. He also picked up a total of three second place finishes, with silver being the lowest he’d go all weekend long.
Kyle himself said that this weekend was a big win for him, and that it shows just how far he’s come over the years.
“My freshman year, I couldn’t even qualify for state, so getting to where I am now has been a huge accomplishment for me,” Morton said.
Congratulations to Kyle Morton on his stellar performance.
