Prep Athlete of the Week: Mason Eager, Kelly Walsh

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It’s not every day that a high school freshman is leading the varsity team in scoring, but that’s exactly what Mason Eager was up to last week.

While some may focus on the fact that Eager is impressing early in his high school career, he has focused more on his performances than his age.

“I just go out there and do me. I don’t even think of myself as a freshman, I just go out there and do my thing,” Eager said.

Eager’s game against Evanston this past Friday was a big reason he earned Athlete of the Week honors. Not only did he pick up 21 points, but he also knocked down the game winner for his team with just a few ticks left on the clock. Then one day later, he poured in 18 for the Trojans in a narrow loss against Green River.

Hitting a game winner can be a tall task, but Eager kept his mindset fairly simple once he got the ball.

“Don’t miss. Right? Because I caught it and there was like eight seconds left, I’m like ‘you have to finish this.’ And I did, thankfully. That was kind of just going through my head, because we needed that of course, because it was tied eight seconds left, so I had to hit it,” Eager said.
