As Valentine’s Day approaches, candy stores see uptick in business
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With Valentine’s Day coming up, one of the most popular items... other than flowers... is what else? Candy!!!
According to statistics, chocolate and candy sales can reach profits of one billion dollars during Valentine season, with the average American spending $16 on Valentine candies. Mike Stepp, owner of Donnell’s Candies, says it’s one of the busiest times of the year.
“It’s about a week-season for us. Valentine season is. And the busiest day of the year is usually the 13th of February. So... Haha... We get a lot done in a very short period of time.”
Stepp says that a lot of the clientele during the week leading up to Valentine’s Day is men. But the question is... How many wait until the last minute?
“Well, you know... It’s gotten better over the years. Now, instead of coming in at 4:30 pm on the 14th... They come in at about 4:30 pm on the 13th! Hahaha. So... It’s improved.”
Donnell’s has been in business for over 60 years, and Stepp has been working for the family business for nearly 50 of those years. So what exactly are the most popular sellers?
“Probably the most popular choices are our hand-dipped chocolate truffles. With chocolate centers in different flavors. And probably the next biggest is the pecan pixies. That’s our signature piece. Caramel and pecans and chocolate. And the boxed-heart chocolates, of course. The boxed hearts are very popular.”
And if you’re single? Well you can just buy some for yourself!
