Day Two of Wrestling States Sees the First Ever Winner of the Wyoming High School Girls Tournament and the Beginning of the Boys Brackets

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Day two of the Wyoming Wrestling States wrap up, and with it came the conclusion of the first ever Girls Wrestling State Championship as well as the beginning of the Boys brackets.

On the Girls side, there were quite a few wrestlers from the viewing area who made it to the finals, but only two of them won.

First in the 145 lb weight class, Meadow King from Central won it via pin in the finals, winning her first ever state title.

Her run was as dominating as it gets, as she wrestled in four matches and in every single one of those matches, she won by pin.

After her in the 170 lb weight class, Olivia Smith from Kelly Walsh captured her first title, after winning her match via decision 6-4.

In that finals, she played some excellent defense on the ground, maintaining the 6-4 lead with nearly a minute left in the final period to capture the championship.

However there was one school that took the State Championship, and it’s Star Valley who won the inaugural Wyoming Girls State Championship.

Congratulations to them, and below are the winners of each weight class in the Girls State Championship.

However, where one tournament ends, another began with the Boys starting their tournament.

In two of the conferences, there are a couple of shake ups for which schools currently lead the scoreboard.

In 4A, Sheridan is in the lead after scoring 231 points, and they are the only school in the tournament that ended day two with over 200.

Star Valley, who were not only in 3A last year, but won that State Championship, are behind them with 168 points.

At the moment its looking like there will be a new state champion in 4A, as defending State Champs Natrona County sat in fourth place with 156.

For 3A there will be a guaranteed new State Champ, and leading that conference it’s Green River who have 182.5 points after the second day.

Cody is in second behind Green River with 138 points of their own.

Finally in 2A, the defending State Champs Kemmerer hold the lead heading into the final day with 157 points.

Moorcroft is in second in 2A with 112 points.

170 lbs:  Olivia Smith; Kelly Walsh

190 lbs:  Maggie Smith; Rock Springs

235 lbs: Becca Oetken; Sheridan
