CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After four years, the City of Casper passed the seventeenth one cent sales tax in November to help support local nonprofits.

In the past, the one cent tax has gone to local businesses that impact the city of Casper like the Senior Center and Boys & Girls Club. Many other businesses have received help, including one that teaches kids about science. The Science Zone has received money. Keri Owen said with the money received, they were able to bring in bigger exhibits and move into a new facility.

City Clerk, Fleur Tremel said funding has changed, and now anyone can apply. “They changed it a few cycles ago to open it up so anyone can apply rather than just having a committee. Then the actual council goes through all those applications and awards it, and at that time it went up and they started funding closer to 30,” Tremel continued.

The City Council will consider proposals in April and will approve projects in June. If you are a nonprofit and would like to apply, all applications need to be submitted by Tuesday, March 28th at noon. To submit your applications, all should be submitted electronically and sent to ftremel@casperwy.gov or call the City Clerk’s office (307)235-8272 for questions or concerns about the application process.
