CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - One of the cornerstones of the Central girls track and field/cross country powerhouse made it official on where she will compete collegiately.

The Lady Indians’ Averie Perriton will run both track and cross country for the Utah Tech Trailblazers starting next year. She said that one of the biggest draws for her in her decision is the direction that the program is headed.

“I really liked it specifically because they’re a developing program, so there’s a lot of potential in it as well. They’ve got a lot of new stuff happening, and I think that was really appealing. The program’s still growing,” Perriton said.

She will certainly help continue that growth; Perriton finished fourth individually in cross country this past season (which earned her an All-State selection), and she’s been a crucial part of the Lady Indians’ track and cross country dynasty. She contributed to multiple championships between cross country, indoor, and outdoor track, and will be one of the driving forces during Central’s push for another title at indoor states in early March.

At the next level Perriton said she’ll likely run the 5K, mile, two mile, and 800 meter, but before that she still has some unfinished business left in high school.

“I have a lot of goals still, like timewise for the events that we have here that I have written down. I want to go in the five-teens for the mile... so I got goals like that, and also we want to get another state championship. That’s the big thing for Central this year,” Perriton said.

She also plans on studying computer sciences while in St. George.
