4A and 3A Regionals end, 1A and 2A Crown their State Champs
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The regionals have been decided for the bigger conferences, and the smaller conferences ended their seasons today with the state finals.
There were a couple of rematches in these state finals this year, one of them being the 1A girls finals where Southeast went up against Upton. This time was much different than last time, as Upton managed to build a lead and hold it for the majority of the game, and they won their first girls basketball state title.
The 2A girls was a matchup between Southeast area teams, and both of them weren’t expected to make it this far. Burns and Lingle-Ft. Laramie had tough roads leading to the finals, but Burns would complete their shocking run and capture their first girls basketball state title.
The 2A boys was the other rematch in the finals, as Pine Bluffs took on Big Horn. This game had a ton of defense in the first half, and it was tied going to the fourth quarter. Pine Bluffs managed to hit some clutch shots, and repeated as state champs over Big Horn.
The 4A East regionals for both boys and girls saw the same schools going for the regional championship. It was East going up against Thunder Basin, and they would split the series. The East girls couldn’t keep up with the size difference between them and the Lady Bolts, and it took extra time for the East boys but they managed to take down Thunder Basin in overtime.
