CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With the legislative session in our rear-view mirror, Wyoming will start seeing the decisions made there come to fruition.

One of those decisions pertains to a Platte County Rancher who leads a successful Technical College in Laramie and has been named the newest trustee to the University of Wyoming Board.

” I meant The Governor specifically mentioned that Mr. Mathis will bring a fresh perspective to the University from his experiences at Wyo-Tech, and so I think that’s precisely what the Governor has in mind, yes is a diversity of perspectives and things that would be helpful to move the University forward,” said Chad Baldwin, Associate Vice Principal for Marketing and Communications-U.W.

Rancher Jim Mathis, President and CEO of Wyo-Tech, was appointed by Gov. Mark Gordon and approved by the Wyoming Senate.

Also reappointed to the board are Vice Chairman Kermit brown of Laramie, Secretary Laura Schmid-Pizzato of Rock Springs and Dr. David Fall of Gillette; they will hold these positions until 2029.

Next, the Wyoming Small Business Development Center will continue its six-part webinar series about the State Trade Expansion Program. (STEP)

This webinar guides small businesses through international trade expansion, providing real-world help to Wyoming small-business exporters.

Multiple speakers will include Mark Saxelby, Director of Business Development for Crane Worldwide Logistics, and Chester Chu, Wyoming-Asia Pacific Trade Office Director for the Wyoming Business Council.

“We have actually many small businesses in Wyoming that do have international trade. But the idea is to try and expand that opportunity, these people know what they are doing,g and they can help people make the connections they may need to market themselves internationally,” said Baldwin.

In 2019 Wyoming companies exported $1.37B in goods globally; of those companies, 97 percent are small businesses.
