CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Wyoming Department of Transportation’s 511 travel website registered over 2 billion hits on their site in 2022.
This is the most hits in one-year WYDOT has seen since the department started tracking them.
The website shows both forecasted and real-time weather-related road impacts.
As well as direct data from WYDOT weather sensors, plow operators and Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers.
The top visited pages within the site were the closures and advisories pages, followed closely by the I-80 web cameras.
This site helps folks drive Wyoming roads accurately in winter conditions and in real-time when other driving apps may not.
“You can look at construction projects, mileposts, you can see weather radar, you can see national weather service warnings, watches and other messaging and it’s a layer on top of the map. So you can see how that will impact your travel. You know what route might be better based on the weather forecast and other information, so the map just has so many amazing resources we use it here every day,” said Jordan Achs, Deputy Public Affairs Officer WYDOT.
Additionally, the Wyoming Travel Authorization Program helps folks travel past areas that may be shut during winter closures and has received 17,000 new active users this year, which can help folks get to work, home or get to livestock during storms.
