Getting a DUI is no pot of gold this St. Patrick’s Day

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It’s easy to overindulge, particularly on holidays that encourage going out and drinking with your friends. But this St. Patrick’s Day, be aware that law enforcement will be out and about, looking for impaired drivers.

Cheyenne Police, Laramie County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Highway Patrol troopers will be out in force to combat drunk drivers. Cheyenne Police say it’s important to make a plan before you go out, so that you don’t end up with a DUI. Alexandra Farkas, with the Cheyenne Police Department, says getting a DUI can affect you for life.

“You risk getting arrested, you could go to jail, you could also face significant fines, and that’s all something that will stay with you on your record, so if you’re looking for a job or to be enrolled in school, all of that would show up. It stays with you, and it’s not worth the risk.” Says Farkas.

In addition, the Mobile Command Vehicle will be out and about do process DUIs and to serve as a reminder that law enforcement is watching.

If you suspect a drunk driver, Cheyenne Police recommend calling the ‘Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately’ (REDDI) hotline at (307)-637-6525. If you see a friend or family member about to drive home whilst drunk, take the keys away from them and help them find an alternative, safer alternative.
