Prep Athlete of the Week: Alyssa Brenchley, Central
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - High school soccer has made its return to the Cowboy State, and few things will give teams confidence like a hot start to the season.
Central’s girls squad achieved that with a 2-0 record after the first weekend on the pitch, and Alyssa Brenchley helped the Lady Indians find a groove early on.
”I think just the confidence we had going into it [was big]... I play center back, and I’ve wanted to get it up more this year. So I took my opportunities to get up and get goals too,” Brenchley said.
Alyssa and the Lady Indians beat two Nebraska schools to begin their year, and she played a big role in getting the ball moving against Gering. In the first three goals scored of the 9-0 rout, she had a strike from outside of the box as well as an assist off a corner kick.
Their opening weekend success has them tied for first in the 4A East standings with East and Thunder Basin. Brenchley said the explosive start to the season can be a big confidence booster moving forward.
”So last year we kind of struggled with finishing, and this year we already have what, 14 goals already? I think that’s the equivalent of the entire season last year. So I think that our confidence is just going to bring us and carry us through this season, and have a good finish,” Brenchley said.
Congratulations to Brenchley and the Central girls soccer team on their performance this weekend.
