Wyoming’s Megan Reid cooks with us and competes on Gordon Ramsay’s Master Chef on Wednesday
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - (Transcribed from live cooking segment)
Alright, welcome back today, we have a special guest who is not only cooking up something good but is also getting chummy with Gordon Ramsay.
So Hi, this is Megan Reid.
Hi, thank you so much for having me.
So what can you tell us about this cooking competition gives a little bit of the background of how you got started in Wyoming. How did you start cooking? and how did you get started on Gordon Ramsay’s show?
I’m actually from Seattle, Washington, and two years ago we moved to Wyoming.
We bought a motel that’s called the Hide Out, and we’ve been remodeling that, and it’s a small town that’s 500 people.
So there’s not a lot to take out options, so I started a little TikTok and taught myself both how to cook everything under the sun, and I was discovered by MasterChef, and here we are.
What city is your hotel in?
It’s in Cokeville.
Wow and how long have you been there?
Two years.
Two years, so how did you get? How did you submit to this show Master Chef and then what’s it like to be in with Gordon Ramsay in your face?
Right yeah, oh my gosh? Well, so I started with my TikTok and just became popular. So I got an email one day, and it said you know, I hope you get this. This is a producer from MasterChef.
At first, I thought it was fake because you know I mean who gets that, so I said call me.
They called me, and it was real, so I submitted my application and went through the process, and it was pretty quick after that.
Where are you now in the competition?... We should start cooking, right?
Ok, so we’re gonna make some lemon blueberry scones. These are really delicious. They’re great for a weekend morning.
It starts with just two cups of flour. We’re gonna dump this into a bowl along with this is three tablespoons of sugar. A tablespoon of baking powder. This is a pinch of salt and some lemon zest.
We’re gonna take all this, and we’re gonna just give it a whisk.
Then we’re gonna take our butter, which the best way to do butter in scones is to grate it over a cheesegrater so this is graded butter. We’re just gonna put this right into there as well, and then we’re gonna mix this in with our fingers which we don’t have to really do that.
But we’re gonna mix this all up with our fingers and scrunch it, and we’re gonna add in a cup of heavy cream, and then we’re gonna knead this on the counter.
Then this will, we’re gonna need this into two disks, which we have over there over here.
We have two disks of dough right here in a cake pan.
So what’s it like to be in the final throws of competition now, and how many competitors are still left?
I can’t really say anything, I can only talk about my experience and my part and the part that’s aired.
So this Wednesday, we’re gonna be... the West is going to be competing for their aprons, so that includes me and I can’t wait for you guys to see it.
That’s so exciting.
And you asked about Gordon Ramsay what’s it like to have Gordon Ramsay in your face?
Yes, is he as intense as he seems on TV?
He’s actually nicer than he seems on TV. He’s a really nice guy.
I mean Joe, he’s a character, and he’s a little different, but Gordon, the one that everybody thinks is gonna be the harshest is not, but I mean, he does yell.
We’re gonna put our blueberries right on top of this first disc of dough that we laid on here, and then we’re gonna take our second disk of dough and place it on the top, and then we’re just gonna press it down on the sides.
So how long have you been cooking for?
I have been cooking pretty much my whole life but then when we moved to Cokeville and we had such limited options for even a grocery store honestly. It’s a food of dessert. I started cooking all the meals at home, and we have you know a family of five.
So lots of cooking yeah.
And why did you pick Wyoming?
We actually just found this place, this motel we wanted a change, and we wanted a different pace of life.
So we thought about an Airbnb or a couple of other things, and then this motel became available, and we just jumped on it with no experience, and it’s been successful.
So the competition is on Wednesday?
It’s on Wednesday at 7 PM our time and what channel can we watch it on?
On Fox .
Can we vote for you to support you?
You cant vote for me but you can cheer me on.
Yeah? we can sign on to your TikTok and say yay.
Yes, it’s Megan Hays Reid on TikTok, and you can find all the recipes there.
Alright, let’s see the finished product we’ve got about 15 seconds.
We would just cut those up and bake them in the oven at 450 for 15 minutes, and this is the final product, and there they are.
Alright, well, thank you so much Megan for coming we appreciate it.
Thank you so much.
We’re going to be watching and hoping for the best.
Thank you so much.
Thanks for coming.
