An oil and gas company has withdrawn one of its three applications to pump hydraulic fracturing wastewater underground in southeast Wyoming.

Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission officials say EOG Resources withdrew an application to pump hydraulic fracturing wastewater into the Sussex Aquifer from sites near subdivisions in Laramie County.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that members of the Cheyenne Area Landowners Coalition and the Powder River Basin Resource Council applauded the move in a news release. The groups were concerned that the company's wells would leak and contaminate nearby domestic wells and pollute a potential future drinking water source for the county.

EOG spokesman Creighton Welch said in an email that the well application had been withdrawn because the well isn't needed.
